When I was in college, I was hired by a local church as their youth director. It was a challenging, but enjoyable job, and it stretched me in a variety of ways.
One of the the skills I was forced to learn by serving in that role was the skill of playing guitar. I taught myself some chords, and began regularly practicing some of the popular worship songs of the time. With practice, I got better and better.
By no means did I become an expert, but I became proficient enough that I was able to effectively lead worship. I have used that skill repeatedly in my decades of pastoral ministry and church planting. Now I’m regularly asked by others for advice on the basics of learning how to play guitar so they can lead worship as well.
If you’re looking for a course or video lessons that can help you easily master this skill, please check out the classes Aaron Anastasi has put together in his course, “Play Worship Guitar - Learn Guitar, Learn Worship.” I think you’ll find it helpful and easy to follow if you’re looking to learn how to play guitar and improve your ability to lead worship.
